Researchers from CHANGE participated in Encontro Ciência 2023

CHANGE took part in the Encontro Ciência 2023 with a thematic session dedicated to the theme of Ecological Restoration of Natural and Productive Ecosystems towards climate and energy transition, jointly organized with the Associated Laboratory TERRA.

The thematic session, held during the event from July 5th to 7th in Aveiro, besides including an overview of the Associated Laboratories CHANGE and TERRA, conveyed by their respective Executive Directors, Susana Filipe and Paulo Branco, allowed for the presentation of ongoing research in both associated laboratories to be showcased. During the session, the essential role of science as a facilitator of appropriate policy interventions was highlighted, as well as the need for collaborative and interinstitutional efforts involving scientists, governments, civil society, and industry to achieve restoration objectives.

Presentations focused on diverse topics such as soil, integrated management of ecosystems and productive systems, dune ecosystem restoration, and algae-based food and involved the participation of researchers: Alice Nunes (CE3C & CHANGE), Cristiana Nunes (LEAF & TERRA), José Muñoz-Rojas (MED & CHANGE), Gonçalo Duarte (Center for Forest Studies, TERRA), David Fangueiro (LEAF, TERRA), and Nazaré Couto (CENSE & CHANGE).

CHANGE is deeply committed to advancing knowledge, designing new integrative research and development approaches to actively contribute to society, thus strengthening one of the most important pillars of the Associated Laboratories, support for the development of public policies.

In the Encontro Ciência 2023 session dedicated to Scientific Careers: organization, challenges, and expectations, promoted by the Council of Associated Laboratories, Cristina Máguas, coordinator and researcher CE3C and Vice-Director of CHANGE, and Teresa Ferreira, researcher CEF and Coordinator of TERRA, moderated an international panel that sought to raise and discuss the status of scientists' careers, in academic and business contexts, in Portugal, Spain, and Italy
