CHANGE researchers contribute to COP30 – United Nations Climate Change Conference

Cristina Branquinho, researcher at CHANGE, CE3C, professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, joined the working group of international science academies that met between October 20 and 22, 2025, in Manaus, Brazil, drew up a document with strategic recommendations for COP30 policy makers. The text focuses on issues related to the inclusion of sustainability topics in education, climate justice, and biodiversity, reinforcing the role of science as a pillar in political decision-making.

Francisco Ferreira, also a researcher at CHANGE, director of CENSE, professor at NOVA's Faculty of Science and Technology, and president of Associação Zero, will attend COP30, which will take place in Belém, Brazil, between November 10 and 21, 2025. He will participate in conference debates and panels focusing on mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, and energy transition. His presence reinforces the importance of linking scientific knowledge with civil society action and the implementation of concrete measures to achieve climate neutrality goals, particularly in the context of CENSE's modeling work in support of the 2030 National Energy and Climate Plan and the Roadmap for Climate Neutrality 2045.
